The Standard Bank Group Learnership Programme offers South African youth structured workplace experience, a monthly stipend, and a nationally recognized SAQA-accredited qualification.

Programme Highlights

  • Duration: 12 to 24 months (fixed-term contract).

  • Monthly Stipend: Ranges from R6,800 to R15,000 per month (depending on the specific track, role level, and qualification required, often including student medical aid for specialized tracks).

  • Qualification Gained: An NQF-accredited certificate (e.g., NQF Level 5 Certificate in Banking or Occupational Certificate in Data Science).

Popular Focus Areas

  • Business & Commercial Banking (BCC): Focuses on customer relationship management, assisting SMEs, and business operations.

  • Corporate & Investment Banking (CIB) Operations: Transaction processing, intelligent process automation, and data management.

  • Internal Auditing & Data Science: High-level analytical procedures, risk compliance, data governance, and automated reporting.

  • Retail & Branch Banking: Customer service, financial transactions, and general administrative support.

Minimum Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for a learnership, you must meet the following general requirements:

  1. Citizenship: Must be a South African citizen.

  2. Age: Between 18 and 30 years old (some general streams accept up to 35).

  3. Education:

    • General Entry: Grade 12 (Matric) with good results in English and Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy.

    • Specialized Streams: Relevant 3-year tertiary diploma/degree (e.g., BCom, IT, Data Science, or Computer Science).

  4. Current Status: Currently unemployed, not studying full-time at another tertiary institution, and not registered on any other active learnership or internship.

Required Application Documents

Prepare clear, certified copies (usually under 3 months old) of the following before applying:

  • Updated Curriculum Vitae (CV)

  • South African ID document

  • Matric Certificate

  • Academic transcripts and tertiary degree/diploma certificates (if applicable)

2.Create Your Candidate Profile:

  • Set up a user account on SmartRecruiters (Standard Bank’s recruitment partner) and accurately fill in your personal details, education history, and location.
3.Upload Required Documents:

  • Attach your updated CV, certified ID copy, Matric results, and academic transcripts.
4.Complete Screening & Odyssey Assessment:
  • Submit your application for the specific learnership stream. If pre-screened successfully, check your email for an invitation to complete an online Odyssey cognitive or psychometric assessment.
